If you’re in the market for a Tesla Model Y or any other electric vehicle (EV), one of the most important things to consider is its range. In other words, how far it can go on a single charge. As a Tesla owner myself, it’s one of the most common questions that I’m asked and the answer’s not as simple as you might think… Continue reading to explore factors that affect the Model Y’s range, and some tips on how to maximize it. Let’s see how far a Tesla Model Y can go on a single charge.

Battery and Range

Currently, Tesla offers three trims of the Model Y that can be ordered directly from their site. This includes the Dual Motor All-Wheel Drive, Long Range and Performance models, respectively. All three models house a lithium-ion phosphate battery pack. This means that you should charge your Model Y between 80% and 90% to avoid faster degradation of your battery.

Battery and Range

Currently, Tesla offers three trims of the Model 3 that can be ordered directly from their site. This includes the Rear-Wheel Drive, Long Range and Performance models, respectively. The Rear-Wheel Drive trims are currently shipped with a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery, whereas the Long Range and Performance models have a lithium-ion battery pack. The key difference for you and me, is that LFP batteries can be charged to 100% each day, whereas lithium-ion batteries are recommended to be charged between 80% and 90% to avoid faster degradation of your battery.

How to open glovebox in Tesla Model 3?

open glovebox Tesla Model 3

How to normally open the glovebox?

You just got your new Tesla Model 3 and the delivery specialist did not show you how to open glovebox in Tesla Model 3. It happens. It is not trivial as there are no visible buttons or latches. Tesla has probably done this for aesthetic reasons and cut cost. Well it is simple:

  • Tap on the the Model 3 icon at the lower left corner to bring up quick controls.
  • Look at bottom left for an option to open the glovebox.

How do you open the glovebox if the screen is cracked during a crash?

For example, if you are involved in a crash and there is a need to access the glovebox as your important documents are likely in there. Most of us keep our insurance and ownership documents in there. Well Tesla is aware of this limitation. The screen is permanently fixed in place so it less likely to crack but nothing is immune during collisions.

The correct way to open doors from inside a Tesla Model 3

open doors from inside model 3

The opening of the doors inside of a Tesla Model 3 is not trivial for the first time users. New passengers often wonder on how to open doors on Model 3. Well, there are two ways to open the doors from inside.

The correct way on Model 3 to open doors from inside is to always use the open door button, marked with a green check mark.

However, this button is not so obvious in year 2018-2020 models. There are some stickers that you can purchase to make it more obvious. For 2021 models and above, Tesla has changed the open icon to make it more intuitive.

What is that second door latch to open the door?

In addition, the latch marked with “x” also opens the door on Model 3. But, you should not use this to open the door. This is strictly for emergency purposes. For example, to get out when there is absolutely no charge left in the battery. Or the button has stopped working after a collision or just a random malfunction.

How to delete recent Model 3 radio stations from history?

You were enjoying your time in your Tesla Model 3 and were listening to some stations that you rather keep to yourself and not leave them there for other passengers to see in your recent history. You like listening to Backstreets Boys but your love shall remain anonymous. Or you are someone who simply does’t like clutter. Now you are wondering how do I delete recent radio stations from history in my Model 3? There should be an option to quickly erase or factory reset the recent stations. Unfortunately, as of December 2020, there is no option to do so.

As of December 2020

You cannot delete recent Model 3 radio stations. You can only delete favourites.

Tesla may choose to include clear history feature in the future updates but as of today there is no option. The best way to get rid of them is to listen to more stations, one after another until they are pushed far left.

You could edit your favourites easily on the other hand. editing favourites is fairly simple. Simply hold onto the station, also known as long press, until the “X” appears on the top left. You can then click on it to remove it. Keeping favourites organized is the best you can do to keep this row clutter fee.

How to update Model 3 software when there is no Wifi?

Let’s discuss how to update to the latest Tesla Model 3 software even when there is no Wifi. For some of us, we park our cars where there is no Wifi coverage. I live in an apartment building where my parking spot is no way near my Wifi signal. I often miss out of software updates on Tesla Model 3. It is not until one hears from a friend about a recent update or get buzzed on the Tesla app to connect to a Wifi for an update. Don’t worry, you are not alone. We will look into some ways you can still get software updates. Although Tesla installs some of the security critical updates through in-built LTE network connectivity but most of the updates require you to connect to Wifi.

Unfortunately, there is no way to force updates through your LTE network connectivity other than at Tesla Service Center. Below are some of the next best ways to update Model 3 software when there is no Wifi.

  • Your phone as a hot-spot
  • Public Wifi at Starbucks or McDonald’s parking lot
  • A family or friend’s driveway

How to put Tesla Model 3 into Neutral

Before entering a car wash, you probably questioned “how do I put the car in neutral?” Unlike many ICE, it is not as trivial for Model 3. Don’t worry, you are not alone. On the Model 3, you simply push down for 1 full click to get into drive, and then softly raise the stick WITHOUT clicking for a few seconds and it will shift into neutral. I hope this helps! Also, don’t forget to turn off automatic wipers before entering that car wash.
