Keeping your Tesla running smoothly isn’t just about software updates and charging habits. Proper tire maintenance plays a huge role like it would with any car, and one of the simplest yet most important steps is making sure your tire pressure is at the right level. Continue reading for steps on how to check the tire pressure of your Tesla.
Recommended Tire Pressure
The door jam of any Tesla will display a sticker, and this should be used as the definitive source for your car’s correct pressure. It varies depending on the tire size, load, and wheel type. See an example from Teslarati.
However, for the Tesla Model 3, Y, S, and X, the recommended psi is 42 for most tire sizes, but in some cases can go up to 45. Lastly, for the Cybertruck, the recommended psi is 50 in almost all cases.
NOTE: See our comprehensive guide to Winter tires for your Tesla.
Checking Your Tire Pressure
If your Tesla has the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS), then simply tap Controls > Service and the psi for each tire will be displayed. It also shows what time your tire pressures were last measured, as well as the vehicle’s recommended cold tire pressures so you can easily determine how much to inflate your tires if needed.
NOTE: You can choose whether you want to display tire pressures using psi or Bar by tapping Controls > Display > Tire Pressure. You can also view the tire pressures via the Tesla Mobile app.
If your Tesla doesn’t have the TPMS, it will still display an alert on the touchscreen if underinflation is detected. For more information, tap Controls > Service. Nonetheless, to get a real read on the tire pressures, you’ll need to manually calibrate them like you would in any other vehicle.
The Bottom Line
The steps on how to check the tire pressure of your Tesla are easy. If your car is equipped with a TPMS, simply tap Controls > Service and view the psi for each tire on-screen. For Tesla vehicles that don’t have the TPMS, you’ll need to manually calibrate your tire pressure like you would in any vehicle. If the vehicle detects underinflation, it will still notify you.
