Proper tire pressure is one of the easiest, yet most overlooked, ways to keep your Tesla driving at its best. Whether you’re aiming to maximize range, improve ride comfort, or extend the life of your tires, a few PSI can make a noticeable difference. Continue reading for steps on how to adjust the tire pressure of your Tesla.
Recommended Tire Pressure
The door jam of any Tesla will display a sticker, and this should be used as the definitive source for your car’s correct pressure. It varies depending on the tire size, load, and wheel type. See an example from Teslarati.
However, for the Tesla Model 3, Y, S, and X, the recommended psi is 42 for most tire sizes, but in some cases can go up to 45. Lastly, for the Cybertruck, the recommended psi is 50 in almost all cases.
NOTE: See our comprehensive guide on how to check the tire pressure of your Tesla. Know how to do it, whether your car has a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS) or not.
Adjusting the Tire Pressure
While Tesla vehicles are unique in a lot of ways, the method to adjust their tire pressure is the same as you would for any other vehicle.
- Start: You can start by either going to a gas station or by using your own portable air compressor.
- Prepare the Tire: Remove the valve cap from the tire, and attach the air hose firmly to the valve stem.
- Add or Release Air: To add air, hold the compressor nozzle on the valve until you reach the recommended psi. To release air, briefly press the metal pin inside the valve stem, or use the compressor’s release function.
Repeat the above steps for all tires, and begin driving your Tesla. After driving for a few minutes, tap Controls > Service and check to see if the tire pressures have successfully updated.
The Bottom Line
The steps on how to adjust the tire pressure of your Tesla are simple. First, either go to a gas station, or use your own portable air compressor. Next, remove the valve cap from the tire, and attach the air hose firmly to the valve stem. Lastly, either add or release air until you reach the recommended psi.
