While emergencies don’t typically happen all the time, it’s still important to be prepared for them. For example, if the low-voltage power is lost from your Model S or X, you won’t be able to open the doors from the interior like you normally do. Opening the Front Doors with No Power
To open one of the front doors when no power is available, pull up the manual door release located in front of the window switches and push the door open. Tesla has created a useful visual for your reference.
CAUTION: Tesla notes that the manual door releases are only to be used in situations when your Model S or X doesn’t have power.

Opening the Rear Doors with No Power
To open the rear doors manually, the steps vary between the Model S and X:
- Model S: Fold back the edge of the carpet below the rear seats to expose the mechanical release cable and pull it toward the center of the vehicle. See the visual from Tesla to get an idea of what this looks like.
- Model X: To open the falcon wing doors, carefully remove the speaker grille from the door and pull the mechanical release cable down towards the front of the vehicle. After the latch is released, manually lift up the door. See the image from Tesla for your reference.
