The falcon wing doors on the Tesla Model X are something the brand is universally known for. It’s always a talking point anytime the car is brought up, as it looks incredible, while also contributing to the aerodynamic build of the vehicle. However, figuring out how to get them open can be puzzling if you’re entering the car for the first time. Continue reading for steps on how to open the doors of a Tesla Model X.

Opening the Front Doors

The doors on the Model X are electrically powered, and when you approach the vehicle carrying a key, it will unlock automatically. When you reach either the front driver or passenger door, lightly press the handle and it will open on its own.

Additionally, you can also set the driver’s door to open automatically upon your approach and close on its own after you exit the Model X. The car will adjust how far the door will go depending on if any obstacles are detected. This setting can be toggled on or off by tapping Controls > Locks > Automatic Doors.

NOTE: If you have a key fob for the Model X and have the automatic doors setting enabled, you can double-click the lock and unlock button to open the front driver door before reaching the car. A subsequent double-click will then open the front passenger door as well. A triple-click will close the doors.

Opening the Falcon Wing Doors

There are a few different ways to open the falcon wing doors from the outside. The simplest way is to press the door handle when you are next to it. Additionally, if you have a key fob, double-click the falcon wing door button and both will open automatically. Lastly, they can also be opened using the Tesla mobile app.

The doors have been engineered to include several sensors that detect the presence of objects and people, and will stop moving if anything is identified as too close. Moreover, the falcon wing doors can also adjust their outward and upward motion to avoid contacting an object.

NOTE: Falcon wing doors will only open if the vehicle is stationary and unlocked.
