Where are the USB Ports in a Tesla Model S and Model X?
Both cars boast a total of four USB-C ports which can provide up to 27W of power. Here’s where you can find them:
- Inside Center Console: Two of the USB-C ports are found in the front compartment of the center console. These can be used to charge devices or to play audio files from a phone. See the visual from Tesla to get an idea of the exact location.
- Below Rear Touchscreen: Additionally, there are two USB-C ports located below the rear touchscreen. These are primarily meant for passengers in the back of the car. Again, Tesla has provided a useful image for your reference.
Tesla advises using USB 3.0-compliant cables when connecting a device to these ports. Failure to do so could result in slower charging speeds, connection issues, or overall lower performance
USB-A Port in the Model S and Model X
In addition to the four USB-C ports, there’s also a single USB-A port. This can be found in the glovebox of the car. When you take delivery of your Model S or X, a flash drive will already be present in this port, which is used to store Sentry Mode and Dashcam video footage. Most drivers will reserve the use of this port for those two features, but it can be used for other things as well.
Once again, see the image provided by Tesla to know exactly where the port is located in the glovebox. Lastly, ensure you’re not connecting multiple devices using a USB hub to this port. This can prevent connected devices from being recognized by different features such as the Media Player, Sentry Mode, and more.
